The 1st Austrian Library Congress, which took place in Innsbruck in May 2023, marked a significant milestone in the cooperation between the Association of Austrian Librarians (VÖB) and the Austrian Public Library Association (BVÖ). Under the guiding theme of "Working environments – realities and visions", over 900 experts from public, academic and school libraries as well as related disciplines discussed the rapid changes and challenges of the modern working environments.
The conference papers in this volume shed light on the interplay between digital and analogue working, the effects of working from home and distance learning, and the role of libraries as places of knowledge and technology transfer. Key topics such as the library as a place of work, training and further education, as well as innovative services and spatial concepts reflect the current debates and future-oriented approaches that characterise today’s libraries.
