Synopsis
This article examines the reception of Babylonian-Assyrian religions in the work of a biblical scholar from Graz. It focuses on mythological texts such as the Enūma eliš and the Gilgamesh Epic, as well as wisdom literature, viewed as contextual background for the Old Testament. The study highlights how ancient Near Eastern traditions helped challenge theological boundaries. Despite limited sources, the importance of Mesopotamian literature for understanding biblical texts is emphasized, advocating for intercultural perspectives in biblical scholarship.
