Graz University Library Publishing is a publication service of the Graz University Library and enables staff members of the University of Graz to publish their research results as monographs or anthologies in open access and also to make the related research data available.
Our team helps and advises authors and editors throughout the publication process. When preparing your publication, please also consider the requirements listed in the Submission section. There you will also find downloadable documents that will help you with the formal preparation of your book or paper. Please note that no further formatting will be applied to the PDF file you provide. If you need help creating publication-ready data, please contact us either via the discussion tool in OMP (i.e. Open Monograph Press, the publishing software) or at ub.publikationsservices@uni-graz.at.
Our publishing service is based on Open Monograph Press, a publishing tool that provides a standardised, automated workflow in the back-end and enables the promotion of new publications, displaying all published books, etc. in the front-end.
There are two basic publication workflows:
- Single publication (monographs and edited volumes)
- Series and innovative formats
Both require the submission of a proposal. Please use our templates “Proposaleinreichung Einzelpublikation” respectively “Proposaleinreichung Reihe” (the latter also applies to the submission for innovative publication formats).
ad 1. Single publication (monographs and edited volumes)
Step 1:
Please register as an author or publisher on our website at Registrieren | Graz University Library Publishing (uni-graz.at). For members of the University of Graz, this will soon be possible as a single sign-on as well.
Step 2:
Please log in and select "Dashboard" from the drop-down menu on the homepage (under your login name at the top right of the homepage) and then select "Submit" from the menu. Select the tab “New Submission”. Fill in the form (fields marked with * are mandatory) and follow the instructions. You can interrupt the submission process at any time and resume later. Please upload the proposal as the document to be submitted.
Step 3:
Members of the Library Publishing Team will carry out an initial review to ensure that the formal editorial guidelines (cf. Editorial Policy) are adhered to. If these requirements are met, the proposal will then be submitted to the Scientific Board. Board meetings are currently held every two months. On the basis of the proposal, the Scientific Board will decide on the acceptance of the manuscript.
Step 4:
The authors or editors are informed of the decision via OMP. In case of acceptance, they will be informed about the next steps (templates and guidelines, timeline, etc.). Once the Scientific Board has approved the publication of a monograph or edited volume, we enter into a publication agreement with the author or editor. This also includes assigning an ISBN and creating a DOI. Further information and materials can be found in the Submissions section.
Step 5:
Before uploading your publication-ready PDF, please check the following:
- Correct use of the template
- Are all special characters displayed correctly?
- Correct line and page handling.
- Correct position of the images
- Ensure that all links work to improve usability.
- If a printed version of the book is to be produced, the printing specifications (image size, color management, etc.) will also need to be checked.
Please note that no further formatting will be applied to the PDF file you provide. Please upload the PDF of the core of the book ready for publication to OMP. The cover is designed by the LP team according to your specifications (image, logo, etc.). The author(s)/editor(s) will provide the advertising text for the U4 (back cover).
The eBook, which has been approved by the publisher or author, is published on our website (Graz University Library Publishing (uni-graz.at)) and is available for reading and download worldwide. And, of course, this electronic version is protected by copyright as well. In order to optimize visibility, dissemination and findability, the publication will also be placed on unipub/Library Publishing (uni-graz.at) and in unikat, a VLB entry will be created and electronic copies will be given to the Steiermärkische Landesbibliothek and the Österreichische Nationalbibliothek. Comprehensive metadata is particularly important in this context, so please fill in the forms provided in OMP carefully and in both English and German.
ad 2. Start a new series (or innovative format):
Step 1:
Do you want to start a new series on a research theme being worked on at the University of Graz? Please complete the form and send it to ub.publikationsservices@uni-graz.at. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us on extension 1564.
Step 2:
Members of the Library Publishing Team will carry out an initial review to ensure that the formal editorial guidelines (cf. Editorial Policy) are adhered to.
If these requirements are met, the proposal will then be submitted to the Scientific Board.
Meetings to establish new series are currently convened as needed. The editors of the series will also be invited to this meeting to provide an immediate response to any questions or objections raised by the Scientific Board.
Step 3:
The individual volumes of a series that has been positively reviewed will be reviewed by the editors of the series and the Library Publishing Team. This review is also in line with the editorial policy and the guidelines for peer review.
