At the center of the promise of a new covenant in Jer 31:31–34 is Yhwh’s promise that he himself will one day write his Torah on Israel’s heart. This has been widely interpreted as a critical evaluation and abrogation of the institutions of the book of the Torah and its handing down through teaching and learning. Contrary to this approach, it is proposed here to read the promise as an ultimate appreciation of these institutions in an eschatological vision.
