The parting of the Sea and the Iraelites’ crossing are among the iconic moments of the Old Testament. However, strictly speaking this well known version of the events is only one of two formerly independent accounts that are preserved in Exod 14. Both versions were only connected through the hand of a redactor and have received several expansions afterwards. Thus,
the account of the events at the Sea has been contiunously adapted to the changing historical circumstances und theological challenges of different times.
