Students are often referred to as "digital natives" who are assumed to be competent in the use of digital technologies. The fact that university students are not necessarily able to transfer their digital skills to their daily study routine was shown not least during the COVID 19 pandemic in the summer semester of 2020. The question of an educational offer that is appropriate and prepares students for the opportunities and challenges of the digital transformation in the long term seems more topical than ever.
The project was coordinated by the Styrian University Conference and analyses the digital competences of first-year students. Based on this, recommendations for the use of technology in higher education are presented.
