Synopsis
Because of its predominant focus on the specific ethnographic research, Cultural and Social Anthropology builds on particular ethical and legal standards and requires a complex data management and special archiving strategies. The Vienna University library’s pilot project Ethnographic Data Archiving which was based at the Department of Social- and Cultural Anthropology, explored the challenges and potentials of archiving ethnographic data and datamanagement. Its findings (e.g. in terms of data context or openness) offer potential answers for the discipline as a whole and possibly even beyond.
