Synopsis
The impact of publisher’s commercialization strategies on scientific publishing and the monopoly position of a few large publishers in the digital society have a major influence on the acquisition policy of scientific library and information institutions. Solitary selection options and transparent pricing policies have been replaced by complex business models – so-called deals – which are difficult for individual libraries to negotiate. Their merger in the Kooperation E-Medien Österreich (KEMÖ) opens the way to assert oneself in this market and to be prepared for unforeseeable transformations.
