Synopsis
The University Organisation and Studies Act (Universities Act 2002) which led the Austrian federal universities to full legal capacity, took effect on January, 1st 2004. The establishment of frame conditions for strategic management of the universities went along with that. A culture of decrees has been replaced by a culture of agreements between universities and the Federal Ministry. Hereby development plans, performance agreements, performance reports and intellectual capital reports take an essential part. The present article shows especially which role projects of university libraries play in these strategic documents. Additionally, the development of spending of literature acquisition between 2003 and 2017 will be presented.
