Synopsis
The starting point is the diagnosis that the “readability of the world” (Blumenberg) is transformed into the “machine readability of the data universe”. The close connection between book and library is dissolved. Libraries are becoming part of an epistemological and cultural-technical change; they are not simply service providers, but become actors who have to create the conditions for the possibility of maturity and sovereignty in dealing with data. What this means can be seen in the tasks involved in “media provision and administration” as well as “research data management” – two challenges of library work.
