Synopsis
Digitization will fundamentally change all the essential institutions of late modern societies; this also applies to libraries. Over the next decades, the electronic possibilities will be expanded and completely new arrangements will be established. Libraries will no longer be collections of books and magazines. They will become places of knowledge management (in their different constellations and functions), but we can only speculate on what that means in the second half of the 21st century.
