Synopsis
This article situates the challenges the AI revolution poses for journalism within a framework of sociological observation and, on this basis, presents Serious Game Journalism_AI as a method for fostering AI literacy. This serious game offers an innovative, experience-based approach to practically conveying key competencies of media and AI literacy. In the game, participants assume roles within a realistic scenario and negotiate concrete issues related to the implementation and regulation of AI technologies in journalism. In doing so, they address not only opportunities such as efficiency gains and improved information quality, but also challenges, including ethical risks, the formation of filter bubbles, and data protection concerns. The aim of the game is to impart, in addition to AI-related knowledge, above all critical thinking as well as social, and democratic competencies in a practice-oriented manner, in order to promote the responsible use of AI technologies.
