Synopsis
To support behavioural shifts, understanding the factors influencing transport mode choice is essential. Using a nested logit model calibrated with data from Austria’s national mobility survey “Österreich Unterwegs,” this study examines socio-demographic and infrastructure-related determinants of choosing public transport, cycling, or walking over car use. Key predictors include proximity to public transport and household income. The results highlight car dependency in rural areas and the inelasticity of car use regarding travel time, indicating a strong behavioural lock-in.
