Synopsis
University libraries are established places for learning and writing. They support students with services for literature research and management and increasingly also for academic writing. Drawing on our work at the Writing Centre of the University of Innsbruck, which is situated at the university’s library since 2021, we provide insights into selected parts of our program that are particularly well received by students of different disciplines. We argue that writing workshops, writing weeks and writing consultations are more effective in contributing to good scientific practice when based on the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education as well as “Writing Across the Curriculum” (WAC) and “Writing in the Disciplines” (WID). Finally, we discuss on the (additional) qualifications and collaborations required within the university and the library to establish, maintain and continuously develop a reliable support for undergraduate and graduate students accomplishing their writing tasks.
