Synopsis
In the Neuwald near Kukus, Count Sporck commissioned the baroque sculpture ensemble “Bethlehem” in the 18th century, created by Tyrolean sculptor Matthias Bernhard Braun. Carved into sandstone rocks, the works blend art, nature, and religious symbolism. Despite conflicts with the Jesuits, a contemplative space emerged. Braun’s expressive style and integration into the forest landscape make “Bethlehem” a unique monument of baroque woodland art.
