Synopsis
The University of Graz has been engaged in an internal discussion on the definition of quality for years, a conversation that has intensified since the signing of the CoARA (Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment) Commitments. With the introduction of the “Activity Framework,” a new system of expectations and recognition is set to be implemented. This system will not only address traditional, quantitative indicators but will also focus on the non-quantifiable elements of everyday academic life and related activities. Many of these activities are already being carried out and represent an essential part of knowledge communication, networking and transparency, as well as the promotion of early-career researchers. However, they have received little to no recognition in the existing systems. The Activity Framework aims to bring about a cultural shift by clearly defining these activities, establishing binding commitments, and simultaneously acknowledging and valuing these contributions.
