Synopsis
The Horizon Europe project "FutuRe," supported by Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking, aims to renew these railway lines in an economically and environmentally sustainable manner. A key focus is the development of a resource-efficient regional train with low weight and reduced costs. The use of single-axle running gears instead of conventional two-axle bogies reduces both weight and costs. To mitigate the disadvantages of this simple design, active suspension systems are proposed: an active vertical suspension for improved comfort and active wheelset steering for enhanced curving performance.
