Synopsis
The transition to a circular economy in the automotive sector requires reducing waste flows and fostering collaboration across the value chain. In the EU, car production generates 800,000 tons of waste annually, with 85% of materials recycled at End-of-Life (EoL). However, many vehicles are exported, leaving their EoL fate untracked. The CYPRESS INTERREG project (2023–2027) aims to establish a circular, resource-efficient supply chain for electric vehicle production in the Meuse-Rhine region. It will develop pilot lines for key components, including battery modules, hydrogen tanks, and gearboxes, while promoting innovation, training, and collaboration among SMEs and larger enterprises.
