Synopsis
The transition to a circular economy requires reliable metrics to evaluate circularity measures like reuse, remanufacturing, and recycling. This study systematically explores 303 circularity indicators, classifying them by criteria such as R-strategy coverage, dimensionality (environmental, economic, social), and scale (material, product, company, region). Results show most indicators focus on Recycling, with limited attention to strategies like Refuse or Rethink. Only 21 indicators address all three dimensions of sustainability. Preliminary findings suggest a bias toward Recycling, potentially overstating circularity.
