Synopsis
The SMADBatt project addresses sustainability challenges in electric vehicle production by developing a hybrid battery housing that reduces environmental impact. Traditional aluminium housings contribute to high carbon emissions due to energy-intensive production and limited recyclability. SMADBatt introduces eco-friendly alternatives (e.g., recycled cork and wood) to enhance material circularity. Modular design and triggered adhesives improve end-of-life recyclability, while advanced thermal management using optimises battery safety, efficiency, and longevity. Preliminary findings highlight significant CO₂ reductions and cost savings, promoting sustainable circular mobility systems.
