Synopsis
Helmut Hartmann recalls two creative “backdoor” solutions by the VÖB: In 2002, the VÖB temporarily acted as a consortium office to enable a joint invoice for SciFinder—leading to the founding of KEMÖ. In 2008, Hartmann organized a VÖB congress that functioned as a library conference but was not officially named as such, preserving the event cycle. Both cases highlight VÖB’s pragmatic ingenuity in supporting Austrian librarianship.
